Winters Theatre Company Presents: Midsummer Night’s Dream
August 5,6,12 and 13
After a three year pandemic hiatus, Shakespeare Under the Stars, the Major summer production of the Winters Theatre Company will return to the outdoor stage for the weekend of August 5th, 6th, 12th, and 13th.
To welcome back their audience, WTC members have selected Shakespeare’s comedy, A Midsummers Night’s Dream, as their return performance. This play has retained its popularity for over 400 years since its first recorded performance in 1595-96.
Audiences have continued to enjoy the naughty antics of mischievous elves, and the machinations of a friendly fairy king and queen as well as the problems of love struck young mortals and the marriage festivities of a ruling duke and his Amazon bride. One of the most comic aspects of A Midsummer Night’s Dream is Shakespeare’s portrayal of the lovable, well-meaning, but completely inept “mechanicals, “ Athenian workmen who attempt to enact a classical tragedy to honor the wedding celebration of their ruler. These would-be actors turn a tragic drama into a hilarious comedy as they over-act, misuse words, and miss cues, believing their performance is “lofty”.
Shakespeare’s genius is obvious as he merges four disparate sub plots together into a dream-like fantasy which occurs in an athenian forest on a magical night in Midsummer.
The members of the Winters Theatre Company invite the community to join them for a fun filled evening in the outdoor amphitheater behind the Winters Community Center. Bring the family, a picnic supper, and lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy Shakespeare Under the Stars. Light refreshments will also be sold
All tickets are $10. Children under 12 are free. Tickets will be available at the door. Advance ticket sales are available by going to our website at www.winterstheatre.org
